Junie B. Jones and a lesson in parenting.

I was quite bothered this morning. Kat was trying to sound out the word: brains. Then I heard her say something about bashing brains. And then fist was being thrown into the mix. I'm thinking to myself...WTF?? She says it's her Junie B. Jones book she had gotten from Adora. I started reading, trying to figure out what was going on in this book. This all happened while we were getting out of the car for daycare. I did take the book in question with me to work...so I could do some "research". Below is my post in the Parent Forum:

"How'd you like me to bash your brains in, you 09/26 08:42:28

Ummm, this is a sentence in my daughters Junie B. Jones book. "Junie B. Jones and her Big Fat Mouth"
I don't care for this language but what do I do? Not let her read it? Is it that big of a deal?

What are your thoughts?????

I got some interesting feedback. http://forums.craigslist.org/?ID=49841718

"Talk about what she is reading. Ask her 09/26 08:48:13

if she feels what that person said was nice or right. Ask her if she has said anything like that to anyone or if anyone has ever said anything like that to her. Ask her how she thinks if feels to both say something like that and to have it said to her. Books with themes or dialog that make us uncomfortable are great jumping off points for conversations with our kids."

Duh, why didn't I think of that?? I ALWAYS seek different perspectives. Always.

Lemme bring you up to speed...new job, 1st grade, nuts...

Day. Care. Love. It.

I love my kids to pieces, but how wonderful is daycare? So you can understand where I'm coming from.. Since Kat was 1 I had worked for Pro Mod, Bub came along and then there was 2. Full time parent with a full time job. Um, did I leave out the part where both, yes both kids came with me to work. We could never afford daycare before so I dealt with it. It was trying at times, but we got thru it. Now, I have a better($5.50 more an hour) paying job and no commute. Yes, nooooooo commute. They are in a great daycare and everyone is happy. And sane.

My new job is going well. I am a Bookkeeper in the "Financial Department". LOTS of things to clear up, get organized and do:

*I'll just grab a few of my sticky notes for examples*

Build job costing for company
Create liability acct for retainers
Build ESA system for company
Build inventory system for shop
Create financial packets for lending

So, I'm really liking it so far. The boss hasn't blown up on me. Yet. He is said to have a bad temper. We'll see. The other employees are cool. Lenise and I have alot in common and get along great. I'm actually starting to feel like I'm accomplishing something during my work day.

Kat has started 1st grade and is growing up too fast. The second day of school she says "Mom, can you just drop me off and leave"?. Honestly, it took me a second to pick up what she was puttin' down. I thought I had at least another year before I heard that from her mouth. I agreed...and felt like throwing up.

On a funny note..

D: "Do you know what those are"?

Bub: "Own't know".

D: "Those are your nuts"

Bub: "My nuts"?

D: "Yes, see them"?

Bub: "Right here"?

D: "Yes, they are called nuts"

Bub: "Oh, dose are my nnnnutss"?

D: "Yep".

Bub: "Sissy, deese are my nnnnutss"!

Too freakin' cute.

Ok, I'm outta here. Looking forward to my 3 day weekend. Bye.

"Are you gonna spend it at the casino?"

I'll refer to K, as Kat from now on and J, will be Bub.

She makes me friggen laugh. I walked into the livingroom and she tells me that Bub was drawing with the stinky (sharpie) pen. As I was looking for permanent marks I found a paper that she was drawing ticket-stub-looking things. She fessed up to using the sharpie. The pen had gone thru the paper and stained grandma's tv tray. I had her wipe the marks with a wippee, she realized that wasn't working. Her and grandma had a sit down to figure what to do next. Grandma had some cleaner that took it right off, and for her cleaning time she was charging Kat $1. Kat looked puzzled, and asked "are you gonna spend it at the casino?" Grandma is really good at keeping a straight face, I am getting better, but I had to turn my head.
I 'm thinking the casino remark is from a few months back, Kat had given all her quarters to Grandma in exchange for dollar bills. She was heading to the casinos in Vegas. And being considerate, she wanted to know if she'd like a dollar bill or change. Too funny.
